When is a "lie" necessary?

EXTREMELY rarely.... like only when it's truly going to save lives. Like, when an intruder breaks in and ties up you and your wife at gunpoint, and asks if anyone else is in the house, and you know your kids are hiding in their secret place, but you say "No, no-one else is here....."
