Did the police make a mistake by not getting a statement off me?

I made it clear that I didn't want to give name's. So the police made it clear that they didn't need a statement from me.

The thing is that someone else was assaulted too. Some random guy saw me getting attacked and decided to try and be a hero... He failed!
