A couple of big differences between the two are:
The psychopath is usually very intelligent vs sociopath of average intelectual abilities
BUT whats more disturbing is
The psychopath is sadistic and quite commonly derives sexual gratification from hurting others whereas the sociopath doesnt

And, of course, let us not forget that the determination of assessing these aberrations should be left to the professional not to the layman. All of these traits are prevalent in most human beings.

@EugenieLaBorgia Certainly. Yes I agree. I'm simply identifying the differences between the two as many confuse them in accusations
@Socram Oh, yes! Absolutely, Socram - apologies!

Compared to the psychopath, the sociopath will not be able to move through society committing callous crimes as easily, as they can form attachments and often have 'normal temperaments.
A sociopath can form attachments? Really? I thought they were similar to narcissists, who don't seem to be able to form meaningful attachments. Narcissists (at least, the narcissist I know here) seem to be able to very easily throw people away and replace them with new people. They seem to see friends and romantic partners as disposable. Well, maybe they have some platonic friends they genuinely care about, I don't know. That part is a little confusing for me. But romantic partners, they just use and then throw away like garbage. And I thought sociopaths were the same way.

@TeresaRudolph71 While sociopaths qualify as narcissists, not all narcissists are sociopaths. What drives them differs. There is certainly some overlap between these two personality disorders.

@Socram That's interesting. Well then, this one might be a narcissist but not a sociopath. Then again, maybe I need to learn more before I can say for sure.

I'm human. I've been called both sociopathic and psychopathic before. I've been called a great many things. But I'm still human, perhaps with a bit of elf since my ears are a bit pointy and I can't grow a full beard. But still human. All other labels should be meaningless.

@MrNoBody that is a good way to keep going forward and not letting anyone put you down, judge or discriminate you.

The psychopath is keenly aware that what he or she is doing is wrong, but does not care

By that definition most financial frauds or cheaters in relationships/business/legal system are psychopaths. Have you ever met a real psychopath even to claim that? I have one in my family and he is also a doctor in medicine and he totally doesn't fit the general definitions except the obvious fact he is not emotional however he understands others much better than emotional person. He also suffers from ASPD, diagnosed at 16. Also, some psychopaths do feel emotions, a little.

Also not all sociopaths are reckless, neither not all of them are harmful. Those are general nature almost every site say about them. In reality majority of them are very different than the usual definitions you are posting here.

Come on.. you're smart enough to know that this alone does not make a psychopath of financial frauds or cheaters in relationships/business/legal system. It's much more than that. I stated some of the differences between the two. I happen to know both. I'm not a psychologist to say every single psychopath or sociopath are exactly the same. That's absurd.
Also, some psychopaths do feel emotions, a little.
Shallow emotions (emotions may be felt but in shallow and fleeting ways)

the sociopath will not be able to move through society committing callous crimes as easily compared to the psychopath.

I didnt see anywhere where I wrote "ALL" Sociopaths or "ALL" Psychopaths
