Do you encourage those behaviors or call it out for what it is? Which is truly more compassionate to the person suffering from this disorder?

To give the attention to behaviours that are incompatible or alternative to the harmful behaviours that the person engages in. That’s is more compassionate. That entails blocking the behaviour.

Attention seeking is normal and healthy. The behaviours can be wholesome or unhealthy. Consequences should meet the motivational needs of the person.
