Histrionic Personality Disorder.

Do you encourage those behaviors or call it out for what it is? Which is truly more compassionate to the person suffering from this disorder?

I wouldn't encourage but it's not like I don't have mental problems

@MushroomFaerie As the case with many of us. Some behaviors can be more draining on friends and loved ones, though. Especially when there is manipulation involved.
@SW-User Yes I'm well aware. Some are malicious, others unstable. You have to take care of yourself but the unstable don't need to be persecuted so much, it's only reinforcing their desperation

@MushroomFaerie As someone who has battled my own demons, I wouldn't persecute someone else with any mental disorder. But I wouldn't reinforce their destructive behaviors either.
@SW-User no, why would you?

@MushroomFaerie It's just a discussion I've opened up because I've had family and friends who have used manipulation tactics and it gets tiresome. I've had to let a friend go because I wasn't up for "I'm going to kill myself if you don't stay up until 3 AM on the phone with me every night." It's pervasive and I see a lot of those behaviors rewarded and reinforced here.

My ex-bf's mother suffered from this disorder and it had a profound impact on our relationship because he'd constantly give in to her. It's impacted my life a great deal.
@SW-User yes, you need to limit contact and take care of yourselves.
If they did actually take their life it has nothing to do with you or anybody else, it's their illness and we all know most people who constantly scream suicide are not actually gonna do it.
