Why does a person park on the street and sit in their car for a really really long time with the headlights on (shining in your general direction)?

@Gingerbreadspice I get it, it's just like why have the blinding lights in our eyes for an hour? ⌛

I can’t speak for everyone but my headlights are automatic and they don’t turn off unless I lock the car.
