Does anyone else suffer from nightmares?

And what do you do to stop them?
SW-User
Yeah. I find listening to soothing to sounds helps a lot. I find vids on Youtube that have the sounds of rain. Many are like 10 hours long. It really helps with my insomnia as well. Hope that helps.

@SW-User thank you! I’ll try it!

@Montage Good luck. ☺

Sometimes my friends will let me sleep by them while they do whatever, seems to help me relax enough to where I get zero nightmares.
rckt148 · 61-69, M
when I do its usually flash backs from my past and I go right away and get put on meds that stop them .
just common bad dreams I have actually learned to take charge
I slay my demons and I rebuke satan
but the memories that come in my sleep
sometimes I need help with them ,it was hell living it I don't want to dream about it too
Montage · 41-45, F
@rckt148 Exactly!! Wasn’t it bad enough to live though it? Uugghh nope I gotta dream about it too..
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@Montage there are meds that I didn't notice any side effects from that stopped mine ,
I don't have a name since it has been over 6 yrs since I needed them .
My nightmares were triggered by a conversation on EP ,a man trashing a girl from Hatti and I got involved and soon the nightmares got so bad I hated to sleep .
but the meds they gave me at the VA helped
If they persist that is an option ,I am sure doctors will know what you need .
I did not need them long and have not needed them now for over 6 yrs
But some dreams are so vivid ,I am sure they are bad on your heart and you never reach REM state where you actually rest

I’m definitely going to look into meds... thank you!@rckt148

I had terrible nightmares, things like being held in a military like place and every time I ran away and got caught I got cut in half and felt it, then it reset and it kept happening over and over. Also had demons after me in my dreams terrorizing me.

I prayed for the strength to defeat them, after that when they came it was me that went after them, I chased them down and ripped them apart with my hands. I always had strange but amazing powers in my dreams after that, and could become conscious during dreams and control them to an extent, and fly and had super strength and telekinesis.

Also wound up able to do a number of odd things when awake.

God is good.

@th3r0n I pray all the time for them to stop.. I’ve asked God so many times for some relief... it hasn’t happened yet, and it’s been 25 years :(

@Montage “And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

@Montage believing is the key, removing all doubt. I’ll send that whole story to your PM

If they're consistently happening, I try changing up my sleeping pattern, such as what I'm wearing, or perhaps my diet late in the day. It may also help to discover what's causing the nightmares.
Montage · 41-45, F
I definitely know what’s causing them since they are always about the same thing... I’m just hoping one day they finally stop!@JonBoy
JonBoy · 31-35, M
@Montage If you know what's causing it, you're well on your way. I wish you the best of luck.
Newandimproved · 61-69, M
Mine tend to come when i am too warm or the covers bind too much. So I watch the temperature and try not to pile on blankets
Montage · 41-45, F
@Newandimproved I wish I could fix mine that easy!
Newandimproved · 61-69, M
@Montage me too. Have you talked to someone about your dreams?
SW-User
Yes, they are a concentrated version of real life so I just get up and drink coffee
Montage · 41-45, F
But I hate coffee! @SW-User
SW-User
Or just get up and go to work! Ugh@Montage
Abbenthewarwolf · 18-21, M
Yes . most of my dreams are nightmares and there is nothing that I can do to make them go away. I can't stay awake forever
WeighedDown · 36-40, M
I sleep with a familiar movie on it helps but if i ever sleep on my back I'm screwed crazy dreams all night
BearDownChicago · 41-45, M
I used to but they went away on their own. No explanation other than a friend making me smile

Sometimes... they are not pleasant. Fortunately for me they are infrequent. I have a friend who was in a really traumatic accident and he suffered from really bad nightmares. So much so he was scared to sleep. He tried everything: doctors, counseling etc. The one that worked for him: hypnotherapy.
Montage · 41-45, F
@Raymuundo really? That worked? I’m scared to go to sleep every night :(
Raymuundo · 46-50, M
@Montage yes for him it did. He thought it was hocus pocus and went along expecting little but with nothing to lose. It pretty much solved it immediately.
Montage · 41-45, F
Wow that’s awesome!@Raymuundo
Theres not much i really can do except talk to friends about them
Montage · 41-45, F
I haven’t found anything to help mine either:( @PervertedPrincessOfDeath
SW-User
I stopped taking the anti anxiety supplements that have been known to cause them.
Fulfill your dreams and rub out those nightmares

I don't.. It's the most thrilling thing to happen in my life... Embrace the nightmares... For they are............ Uh.... Something something... Blah blah...... Stuff.. ┬┴┬┴┤-ᴥ -ʔ/
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
Very often, yeah.
Montage · 41-45, F
I’m sorry :( I know how bad it sucks! @UndeadPrivateer
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@Montage It's unpleasant. Lucid dreaming does help a lot in reducing their impact though.
Montage · 41-45, F
:( I’m sorry@DancingStarGoddess
@Montage is ok, i get used to it. but would be nice to have the surreal dreams i used to have again
SW-User
I usually try to be lucid during nightmares so I can control the end/pray for a peaceful mind.

I try not to wake myself up because I won't want to fall back asleep
Mrsbetweenfatandfit · 26-30, F
Every night for several years. I haven’t been able to stop them. But I do manage when I wake up. I remind myself that I’m not in my dream by biting my tongue. Nothing bloody but hard enough I can get my shook nerves down
