Yes but not by slipper or cane, only by hand. Over-knee, in class in Infants' School, and so out of character it stuck in my mind and probably seeded the penchant that began to surface only about 4 years later, when I was 10.

I have the seen a boy have the slipper, in PE class (where else?) in my mid-1960s state grammar school- but only one whack and on shorts.

@ArishMell it is far more traumatic if its two whacks and you see the big red shoe shaped marks on his bottom where he had been hit after having to take it on his bare bum. The sight of a boy getting his bare bum slippered often made more of an impact on those watching than actually getting it on their bum.

I see! Probably still more of an impact on any of the spectators who were still to be punished, too. Some who recollect such scenes admit they found it arousing, not what the teacher intended!

@ArishMell You're right; I don't think the teachers intended any arousal, but I'm quite sure they intended impact in two ways:
1. The obvious impact on the bottom of the boy being punished, and
2. The psychological impact on the other boys watching.
The second intention would have been to send a message to others to "watch out; you can be next".

It was so rare in my schools I wonder if that added to the deterrent in another way, by a sort of black mystique. The normal punishments were detentions or impositions (lines & similar).

@ArishMell That's interesting. I would have thought that your generation and in England (hope I have that right), school cp would still have been quite common. It sure was for me in Australia, but no slipper; mostly the cane.

It seems to have varied considerably from school to school. Some of my fellow-British contemporaries on SW report far greater use - and abuse - of CP than I knew.

@ArishMell it varied a lot from school to school and one cannot make any generalisations other than it tended to be used more in private prep schools than State schools and private schools were more inclined to do it on the bare bottom than State schools

@ArishMell as i boy waiting for the slipper i never found it arousing, just very scarey seeing it going across another boys bottom, certainly when bare,knowing i was going to get the same,

@ArishMell fear of getting the slipper played a very big part in keeping out of trouble rather than just the sting on your num when you got it
