For the same reason some people objectify men.

@Lynda70 Yup but mostly it happens with women
@Lynda70 Yep, look at all those beauty contests and magazines featuring nude men.
Lynda70 · F
@kingofhearts Really? Not in my experience. A lot of women objectify men, perhaps you just don't notice it.
kingofhearts · 26-30, M
@Lynda70 Well may be true but i have never noticed
Lynda70 · F
@bijouxbroussard Like Mr Universe and the World's Strongest Man, as well as top shelf women's magazines..
@Lynda70 Do you know any female equivalent of the late Hugh Hefner ?
Lynda70 · F
@bijouxbroussard In what respect? I don't personally know any women as rich as he was.
@Lynda70 Objectifying men, by magazines, clubs with males hosts, etc. And it’s a good point about the money. Objectifying women is more lucrative. Most of the bodybuilding zines and contests are for bodybuilding enthusiasts, so it’s a bit different.

@bijouxbroussard yes, because we're beautiful creatures. Beauty sells.
@GypsyMiss We’re human beings, not creatures or objects to be sold.
GypsyMiss · 41-45, F
@bijouxbroussard hold the phone!...I didn't say anything about selling a human! We are talking image here.
@GypsyMiss The question was about objectifying women.
GypsyMiss · 41-45, F
I know! You were the one that introduced the 'for sale' sentiment!
@GypsyMiss I didn’t say “Beauty sells”.
But I did observe that objectifying women has been more lucrative financially.
GypsyMiss · 41-45, F
Yes, objectifying women is lucrative because beauty sells. Objectifying men in that same way wouldn't be anywhere near as lucrative, because men do not possess beauty. Rather, in most cases they bring masculinity and provision.
It is obvious neither of us are going to concede the others point of view, so I will say adieu.
@GypsyMiss Women are still considered objects, for sale. Beauty, which is subjective at best is only marginally a part of it. Bonsoir a toi aussi.

@bijouxbroussard In a lot of cases women objectify themselves. Men might offer the money through such things as beauty contests but it is women who accept it. They're not forced to.

The same applies to men of course e.g. The Chippendales.
@Lynda70 As I said to someone else, if there was no demand, there would be no supply. We’re seeing a sample of how many women have been approached for sex when sex was not the job for which they’d applied. Or were touched by somebody who didn’t ask first. Yes, this happens to men, too. But a majority either seem to see it as a pleasant experience, often if it was a woman, or they punched the person out. I was approached, I said no. I don’t know if my reply would’ve been different had I been in dire straits, but it doesn’t change the fact that someone approached me.

@bijouxbroussard You appear to be trying to excuse women who objectify men by saying they seem to like it. In the same way, men who objectify women often say they like the attention.

Supply and demand is a two way thing. Suppliers often create a demand for whatever it is they wish to sell. How much demand was there for home computers before suppliers started producing them?
@Lynda70 You seem to believe the position of men and women in society have always been equal, and are in all cultures. It happens not to be so. Like the other poster, I’m going to withdraw while things are still polite. Good morning.
