I used to dance competitively. My mom would critique me based on how she felt I did, instead of how I placed or what the judges commented. More than one occasion I was berated for not being flexible enough in a solo despite winning first overall at a smaller competition, or she would say I was lucky the judges were looking more at someone else in a group dance that won.

My folks were in hyper-religious mode when I was growing up. They ended up making me throw away my Ninja Turtle figures because there was "Eastern religion in the show". They were my favorite things in the world, but the guilt trip got me to toss them. -_-

Corporal punishment. I never understood why a parent had to go so far as to flog their own child to get through to them.
