March 11 Writing Prompt Darkness

My long time friend’s college friend’s youngest daughter got married recently. We had to travel a good part of daylight to get up there. I hardly know the woman and I have rarely seen the kid. I went under duress. She was one person there who knew me by sight until we got there. The day of the wedding we arrived early and I was shown where to sit and then informed I had duties and she was helping the bride’s mom doing whatever they do. I was to drive some of the party to the reception venue after pictures. I was told to wait in the church with the personal items, phone, pocket books, etc for my passengers. I was taken to meet the people I would be chauffeuring. Then sent back to my seat. Before I was walking back I was asked, “why do you have on your shades?” “Because it’s sunny?” They’re prescription. “Do you have your glasses?” Pat my pockets, “They’re in the car.” “Just wear those in, all their stuff is on the pew. I’ll get them later.” So I go to the car, it’s a church, no one is stealing their stuff, and my glasses aren’t in there, I left them in the hotel, which is the venue for the reception. I go into the church, an older one. I go in, there’s more people in there now. I come in up the outside aisle and bump my “bad” leg. Now, I’m in pain (temporary thank goodness) to get to my row I’m lightly grabbing the rail of the seats to get to my seat so if my leg gives out I don’t topple over. I notice a fairly attractive woman then another staring at me. I’m thinking, “yep, still got it”. I’m also thinking, “it’s dark in here”, forgetting about the shades. Now another lady is staring at me. I gingerly turn into the pew. Now I have to push all the things I’m supposed to be watching on the seat out of the way. The wedding is beginning to start, people start filing in. I don’t want to stare around so I keep looking forward. Now I hear a familiar voice, “Take your shades off,” “Then I can’t see. No one will notice.” The thing proceeds on, the fresh newly weds go down and out, then around for photos. I’m following orders and staying there. Watching stuff. There’s a bunch of stuff besides the stuff I’m watching. Then, this lady, the one that was staring at me comes in, she’s a helper too. “Did they leave you alone in here?” I don’t hear that well , so I turned my ear to her, “What?” She says it again. “Yes, I’m supposed watching all this stuff for some reason.” She laughs. Then I say, “Then I’m driving some of them to the reception.” She really laughs then. “No, really, we brought our big SUV just for that purpose.” Then she looks at me, “You’re not blind?” I realized the shades and the walk in made me look blind. We were both in the darkness.
