My daughter is dating a Muslim guy too, but he isn't religious. He was supposed to come over for Thanksgiving, but he picked up a shift at work instead.

@JimboSaturn @Jenny1234 you guys are a bit ignorant to think they left Iran because of the government, maybe their family gave work there or have lived and grew up in America even if they were religious why would that matter
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@Monalisasmith86 First we are Canadian. Second he was born here i think but not his parents. His religion matters if he comes over to eat because he may only eat halal. Also my daughter is not religious so it wouldn't work if he was devout probably.

I’ve had lots of first time guests over the years at Thanksgiving dinners and Passover Seders. It’s always a lot of fun!
HoeBag · 46-50, F
It has to be a very interesting holiday for anyone who is from a country that doesn't have it.

Canada and the US are lucky to have such a holiday.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@HoeBag she was born and raised in Canada so honestly, I’m surprised that this is the first time she has joined a family that celebrates
HoeBag · 46-50, F
@Jenny1234 Maybe only by chance that this was her first opportunity.

I imagine now she will look forward to celebrating it in years to come.

Family gets together, has a feast, a day of relaxing... I think people of any culture would appreciate that.

Cool!!

Are you preparing anything special for her?
Did she request for Halal meat? and they cannot have pork and not suppose to drink alcohol?
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@Chiefjustice we are having turkey. She will eat it
Chiefjustice · 46-50, M
@Jenny1234 I see!
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Some good ham
@MasterLee that's funny 🤣
BobbyMoeven · 100+, M
What a treat.

What's on the menu?
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@BobbyMoeven turkey and roasted vegetables

I skip it. I don't like turkey and squash and pumpkin at all.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
Oh that`ll be a lot of fun.
Could be a nice cultural exchange.
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
Why today and not on Thanksgiving day
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@Patriot96 it is thanksgiving day. Some celebrate today and others tomorrow
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
@Jenny1234 you must be in canada
NCCindy · 36-40, F
It's a US and Canadian thing that defies religion
NCCindy · 36-40, F
@NCCindy They have the same name but have different origins. Also a month apart.
@NCCindy In Canada it was always most just a harvest celebration.

We never tried to pretend it was about "peaceful" colonialism.
Next thing she'll have you fasting during Ramadan
Chiefjustice · 46-50, M
@BridgeOvertroubledWaters I think this is mean or inconsiderate to say.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@Chiefjustice it’s fine. She’s won’t though
@Jenny1234 no offence meant
