The young people today need to learn of uphill struggles

The young have it pretty easy these days and have just had a year's holiday and did they fill there time with anything edifying? No they did not. Instead of using lockdown as an opportunity to learn new skills all they did was play video games and form Skateboard Gangs.

On a Saturday I went to the city and they were a menace to everyone and the police seemed totally disinterested in stopping them even though many areas are not meant for Skateboard stunting.

Things have got so bad in this country that these days it is not a rare occurrence to even see young females on skateboards. In my day young ladies were meant to use roller skates or ice skates but never skateboards.

I genuinely fear where this country is heading. In my local town there was a petition to build a skate ramp Park for the youth to congregate at but thankfully we were able to scramble enough resistance to thwart this silly idea but the rest of the country has got corrupted by American values and girls now think its OK to chew gum and go on skateboards.

On the other hand, as a college professor who works with young people, I have come to the conclusion that young people deal with a lot of hardships that my generation did not deal with as much.

They have a higher divorce rate among their parents then I did.
They have a higher suicide rate among their peers than I did.
They have less security about their future economic prospects than I did.
They are faced with higher college debt than my generation did.
They deal with higher rates of mental illness than my generation did.

And....when "I was their age", the older generation was telling my generation that we were spoiled and had not experienced hardship the way they had. They feared the way our country was heading.
