Kinda sad to think the rave goers of the 90's are now Grampas in their 50's.
All that potential sex; drugs and rock n roll and look where we ended up 😬
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Picklebobble2 they are still happening just in different states. See what happened recently at burning man. Big mistake to go there during a known big Storm.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@DeWayfarer That was awful. Followed that story for a week.
That had the potential to get very messy
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Picklebobble2 exactly.

@Picklebobble2 Every generation has a youth movement though 60s 70s 80s 90s etc and yeah sure we all thought we where super special back then.

Sad fact of life though is anything new is only new of a moment then it gets boring and everyone moves on to something else and all us old timers are like this new stuff is f%king sh!t our generation new what the score was, LOLZ!!!😅

@AdaXI you have no idea how I know this is true.

One of my very old in-laws admitted to being a flapper in the 1920s! 🤣
AdaXI · T
@Picklebobble2 Were you a raver though? I mean I noticed you're from the UK and I know the late 80s early 90s acid house movement was sorta like the 70s disco movement was in America it was absolutely massive.

@AdaXI he is my age. Raves where big as late as the early 2000s. In fact I went to one in 2006 near where I currently live. It got so bad that the city just blocked off the main road in later years.

Now they more or less sanctioned it to the south of the city.

It goes by two different names now. Coachella is the biggest. Stagecoach is the other.

@DeWayfarer Oh yeah raves never died. I just mean in the UK there was a youth movement called the 'acid house movement' which happened over here around 88-95 which was a very UK thing. It's hard to explain really but rave music was like what disco music was in America during the 70's it was commercial it was in the charts it was everywhere.

So rave music (or Acid house music) it means something slightly different to people in the UK you didn't have to go to raves to know what rave music was.

I'll give you an example this reached number 3 in the UK charts...

I mean it was commercial music it goes beyond being underground rave music.

@DeWayfarer And the skeleton gif caPnAhab sent is also from a massive commercial rave track in the UK...

But yeah sorry I'm over explaining myself (as usual) but I just want you to get the idea of how rave music worked in the UK my friend and why I asked Picklebobble2 if he was into that sorta stuff when he was younger back in the day x

@AdaXI it's called punk music here. A cross over from disco and rock. Later came a whole bunch of other styles that mixed into the raves. Like goth and emo. Emo bares some similarities to yours though more Goth.
AdaXI · T
@DeWayfarer YES and I'm very glad you said that I mean you can understand what rave music truly is, it transcends style it merges different music together like when you say 'punk' sure we got rave music which is heavily influenced by that too...

That is the beauty of rave music it has no boundaries oveer here we refer to it more as free style but yeah it merges rock puck disco you name it.

@AdaXI I'm sort of a musician myself. 🙃
AdaXI · T
@DeWayfarer I can't play sh!t but I have a great appreciation for the styles of rave music that are about particularly the older stuff and the less commercial stuff like the truly 303 what you would here at an underground rave stuff...

I don't know if the sound bytes outta this are like from some hammer house horror film like Christopher Lee style but yeah we have a whole scene of underground rave music called 'hardcore' but that a different story LOLZ!

@AdaXI some aspects of grunge, punk, with a lot of synth work from disco. More discord style.

EVERYTHING has a style really once you dissect it.
AdaXI · T
@DeWayfarer That's very true my friend and thank you for amusing my musical interests BTW .. I mean most people just think I'm bat sh!t crazy.🙂

@AdaXI I suppose I got into Dance music in the early 80's.
Lots of late night dodgy fire risk warehouses in faraway places back then 😱 crazy when I think about it.
House Music was where it started for me. About '84. Then it moved on and diversified.
But yes.
Lots of hurried phone calls around 7-8 in the evening with a place name and the town it was in.
If you weren't sure where you were going you'd agree to meet up at a service station or transport cafe along the way so you could follow somebody who knew where they were going
AdaXI · T
@Picklebobble2 Yeah sadly I'm a bit too young to of ever seen the proper original hardcore rave scene where you'd be in the middle of a farmers field out in the middle of nowhere or in a dodgy warehouse. I mean I love you tube where I can at least listen to a lot of these old skool raves sets (although they're usually very poor quality tape recordings) and sadly I know a lot of them are just lost in time and nothing could ever possibly beat actually being there at the time where you saw history being made but a lot of those old DJ sets are just awesome and the whole culture and everything surrounding it, I'm in total awe of it my friend. x
