@NativePortlander1970 no its opening of hunting season
@Sweetlittle20 I was never a hunter so I never paid attention to it.

@NativePortlander1970 look at the pic that went with that post it should give you some idea

As we don't have a hunting season in the UK I didn't know what the significance was @Sweetlittle20
LookingIn · M
@braveheart21 but we do have the Glorious 12th
@LookingIn What's that?
braveheart21 · 61-69, M
Good grief is that still a thing here... I thought the PC Brigade would have banned it... Same as fox hunting lol@LookingIn
LookingIn · M
@NativePortlander1970 that’s when the grouse shooting season starts
@LookingIn Good eating then :)
@braveheart21 As fox hunting is for sport, I'd imagine grouse hunting is for the table, so less controversial.
braveheart21 · 61-69, M
@NativePortlander1970 fox hunting was for getting rid of vermin that attacked farms killing chickens n ducks etc... Grouse hunting is for the upper class sportsmen...
@braveheart21 Initially yes, which eventually turned into sport for nobility and royalty.
braveheart21 · 61-69, M
@NativePortlander1970 most people that went fox hunting were ordinary working class people.. The upper class were in the minority
@braveheart21 By what I understand, there are no restrictions on farmers shooting or trapping predators that hit their livestock in the UK. The fox hunts on the other hand are nothing more than upper crust social gatherings.

I take it from your response that you have never been to a fox hunt... I grew up fox hunting on horse back... And the farmers were more than happy to allow the hunt access to the land... The reason because the hunt killed the fox not wounded it as a shotgun did or allowed the fox to die slowly in agony after being poisoned @NativePortlander1970
@braveheart21 I have several friends in Gretna, Scotland, that are farmers and have had to shoot foxes quite a bit, rest assured, most of them don't miss nor make a mess of it, you're just justifying needless mass slaughter of innocent animals.

@NativePortlander1970 and you sir are an American that is making his uneducated opinion sound like you know what you are talking about... Please don't disrespect something that was a tradition of long standing in this country... Unless you have been here and taken part or grown up with it then you have no idea in truth... As I'm up for work early tmoro I will bid you goodnight and wish you well
@braveheart21 A tradition of killing a lot of innocent animals JUST to go after the few that target chickens, don't accuse me of such bullshit, YOU ALL are the ones that's disrespecting nature, get bent.
