my guy friend called me and to see "how I was doing"? every night. does he like me or something?

I'm enjoying my single life with no man because I just got out of an abusive relationship a month ago and my life is so much better without him. My guy friend (I've known since childhood) been calling me almost every night to see how I'm doing. He texts me every morning. It's nice but damn. He was like, "A beautiful woman like you didn't deserve to be treated like dirt. If i would have been your boyfriend in the past, you wouldn't have gone through the hell you went thought but I'm just saying. " he said himself he wants no more girlfriends and he said that to our friends so why does he seem to ask me for advice on women more than my friends?
Guys can be confusing but what's the point, there's no good guys out there anyways.
he just called me just now after I texted him. I said I'll be busy tomorrow but I'll call sometime thia weekend when I get a chance." I got my assignments and its due next Monday.
