I've been at my job (front desk hotel) for 10 years, they still pay all of us minimum wage, even the manager makes the same as us

I feel like my owners are pretty selfish, they can live in luxury and take big trips, but work us like dogs and only do small things for us like give us 10.00 for Thanksgiving. If he does ever put us a few cents over minimum wage, he thinks he's doing us this big favor. I also make efforts to maybe bring the hotel more money, I add to rates a lot. When I told my owner this and how much I have made extra per year the last 2 years since I started it, she (the wife) didn't show one ounce of appreciation, she blew me off and said it doesn't make any bit of a difference. She talks down to me, always has. Wants to turn a blind eye to the fact that I can potentially be a manager some place else with 25 years of experience. My manager isn't the best either, not supportive, doesn't do some things that should be done, doesn't act as an active manager. Anyway, I have tried and tried to get other jobs. I have been hired before as a manager, but it never works out for one reason or another and I end up back here everytime!! I have ANOTHER interview Monday for a management position, hopefully this one actually takes for the long haul!

@swandfriends there’s no way he gave you all $10 I’m sure you’re exaggerating
swandfriends · 41-45, F
10 dollars? It's not that much. Might be a big mac meal at Mcdonalds and have about a dollar left over lol
MonaReeves86 · 36-40, F
@swandfriends I’m sure he gave you all more than $10
swandfriends · 41-45, F
Lol no, every year it's "Here's 10.00 for your Thanksgiving turkey." Haha I'm pretty sure turkeys are at least 20-30 dollars. Thats why I mentioned that, it's rediculous. They are cheap
MonaReeves86 · 36-40, F
@swandfriends I reckon you’re lying
MonaReeves86 · 36-40, F
@swandfriends and I don’t think Big Macs are $9 in the USA
swandfriends · 41-45, F
Although for Christmas they do buy us gifts. It's usually perfume, or a purse. Thats nice and everything, but still, he could at LEAST give us a dollar more an hour. We do a lot of work. Not just the front desk ( which is stressful in the summer) but also, all the laundry, all the trash, mop floors, clean winows, detail every inch of the hotel. Then if they see one small spot of dust, the call us lazy. After 10 years I'm just not really appreciating being treated like that. And also treated like I'm stupid when I'm the most experienced in seasoned worker there
MonaReeves86 · 36-40, F
@swandfriends how much do you get an hour and how many hours do you work
swandfriends · 41-45, F
The big mac and quarter pounder meals used to be around 6-7 dollars, now they are 8-9
MonaReeves86 · 36-40, F
@swandfriends in Australia a large Big Mac meal is $12-$13
swandfriends · 41-45, F
@MonaReeves86 Well, the minimum wage just went up to 12.00 an hour in Missouri. Which actually if I had made 12 only like 5-8 years ago I would have been happy with that. But now days most jobs will start out at 13 or even more and you get raises. My point is, I don't ask for much but gosh two of us have been there 10 years or longer and neither one of us get any recognition or pay raise
swandfriends · 41-45, F
In Australia do you have dollars or something else?
MonaReeves86 · 36-40, F
@swandfriends how many hours do you work
MonaReeves86 · 36-40, F
@swandfriends we have Australian dollars
swandfriends · 41-45, F
40 a week
MonaReeves86 · 36-40, F
@swandfriends well you get $480 a week?
MonaReeves86 · 36-40, F
@swandfriends can you receive social security on top of it
swandfriends · 41-45, F
I'm only 45 right now so no I can't but you know I have at least a couple things that would probably be approved for disability. But I have not had diagnosis yet from a doctor so I am planning on at least getting diagnosed for my back problems and arthritis in there and maybe even mental health stuff just in case I decide to sign up for disability but yet that's way less money and I don't know if I could live like that
