It has been dying in a lot of places. Its being driven by low effort replacement like trunk r treats in daylit parking lots and or mall/storefront trick r treating.
The sense of innocent mischief and more importantly of community sharing and engagment os being ripped out it in favor of low effort, sterile, bland, and impotentt quasi-celebrations ans its really sad. Yet thats what happens when everyone is scared of even a shred of real life human interaction and quiver over the idea of the doorbell ringing without 3 hours notice.
It's sad to me because it shows how broken our senses of community is these days and its sad to me because us late gen-x and millenials are denying todays kids all the things that made our childhoods great and were given to us. Its selfish and lazy imho

@MethDozer Times have changed. And people have become abnormal, this is why a lot of people prefer trunk or treats. Plus everything is so expensive nowadays.

@disturbedchicken I dont think price has much to do with it. I hear more people disheartened about not getting trick or treaters than anything else. I cant tell you how many people I know or hear talk about decorating, buying candy and dressing up excited to hand ojt candy only to get skunked. It really has more to do with unwarrented anxiety and helicopter parenting and people being too lazy to let kids be kids.
I'm glad to have moved to a small town that goes bonkers for it still and the streets turn into walls of parents and kids walking fowm streets and having a good time making it a little town wide party

@disturbedchicken another thjng J thjnn is killing it is millenial parents who refuse to grow up and rather hire a babysitter and go out drinking instead of knocking back spiked ciders at home or in backyards or while prowling with their kids. Our millenial generation is kinda selfish like that.

@MethDozer I think that's Gen x. From what I've seen millennials are way better parents and we at least talk to our children and love them. My mom was smoking crack when I was like 5 lol.

@disturbedchicken IDK, I know ablot of drug addict millenial parents. I think that is in every generation. I think millenials as a whole try to be kids too much and helicopter too much. I would hate to be a kid in the gen z and alpha brackets with how over structured and doted on they are. I truly believe its why yound adults and teens are so depressed and easily overwhelmed because they never ran free as kids.

@MethDozer A lot of Gen Z have Gen X or Boomer parents. We're usually their older siblings to them. Yes, we are overprotective with our children but at least they are growing up loved and confident. Times are changing these kids aren't like the ones before. If millennials have issues, it's because of our Gen X parents, but we are breaking the generational curses.

@disturbedchicken I dont see a lotnof kids growing up confident these days, just the opposite. Just what I see, a lot of kids hitting 18-20 with gapping mouths and nerveous wrecks unabke to navigate simple social settings.

@MethDozer your parents are millennials? 🥴 How old are you then? You sound way older like a Gen x.

@disturbedchicken "planned ans sturctured play" wasnt a thing with Boomer and Gen X parents like mine. We were given toys and told to get outside and come back when dinner is ready. When company was over it was go in the other room ans play with the other kids while the adults talk and plah cards.
It was great, we had to solve our problems with each other and entertain ourselves. Its not like thag anymore

@MethDozer Are you a parent?
MethDozer · M
@disturbedchicken Unfortuantely no, so Im not giving parental advice but I anyine can comment on what they see in comparison to their childhood. Im very active in my nieces, nephews, and cousins lives and upbringing and I active in comminity events and I see the effects of helicoptering and structred everything and get why kids hate doing anything outide of online these days. I'd hate it too when I was their age if I was always being bird doged and structured as opposed to left to go play amd get dirty and skirmish with my friends and family my age.
Its not jusg parents either. Its people in my age group without kids ruining it for them. How many times I see millenial aged neighbors or guest where I work having a shitfit over a " group of 9-13 year olds out at the field or park unattended by parents" like that it is skme sort of issue. They just get mad and annoyed at kids veing kids. My generation sucks at being community memebers
