Why is Halloween called “all hallows eve”?

So, Christmas Eve is called that because, Christmas Day is the next day!

If Halloween is called “All Hallows eve”, then what the hell is “All hallows day”?

A hallow is an old word for saint or venerated person. So All hallows day eventually became All Saints Day. But Hallows e'ven retained it's old English name.
