I Hate Halloween

A ridiculous holiday where parents get their children to take food from strangers. And not only that, but if you don't have anything to give the kids, you're looked down upon.

*all the sighs in the world*.

And then there are halloween parties. Why is it that people between the ages of 35 and 45 feel the need to pretend that halloween parties are at all fun, with those ridiculous "halloween games" and the stupidly named food? Not only that, but they force their children to go as well, resulting in bored kids, and a group of embarrassing adults eating the burnt brownies Janet made. 🙄

And let's not even get into how massively weird it is for countries that are predominantly Christian to celebrate a Pagan holiday, because then we'd have to talk about the weirdness that is Christmas.

@Master1A Fun is fine, when it doesn't negatively impact the lives of other people who are happily minding their own business, and when it doesn't involve letting children eat food from random people.

LOL. Again get over your uptightness and if you don't want to participate DON'T. and real parents don't allow their kids to eat any candy until it has been checked over. and real parents go WITH their kids while they are out trick or treating.. you will grow up one of these days and understand responsibility..

@Master1A You can't control whether someone knocks on your door, and when you open it to a hyperactive child (usually many hyperactive children) with a tired parent, and you don't have sweets for them? that doesn't go down well. It's a minor inconvenience if it happens once or twice, but it's never just once or twice. And how exactly are parents supposed to check the sweets? With a forensic lab? If bad sweets could always be spotted on visible evidence alone, you'd have a point, but that's not always the case. And anyway, not all parents are good parents. Any old bastard can have kids, so a tradition that gives them a perfect chance to be negligent is certainly not a good idea. Of course parents go with the kids, I've never seen it any other way. If you're suggesting that some kids go out for halloween without adult supervision, you've just successfully added to my list of problems with halloween.

People can celebrate whatever they want, I just think it's really fucking inconsiderate to get children to knock on random people's homes and ask for free food.

@RoboChloe If you don't want to participate, don't turn on your porch light , or post a note saying you are not accepting trick or treaters. take control of the situation yourself. and if parents are not responsible then they suffer their own consequences.. Again they need to take the responsibility...

@Master1A Oh I moved into an apartment, I've escaped the hell of Halloween. That doesn't mean it's not still an issue though. First problem: Kids don't care if you want them to knock or not. Second problem: Only good parents will stop them.

I shouldn't have to be inconvenienced because a stupid tradition gives children with idiot parents a prime opportunity to act irresponsibly. Which doesn't only affect them, it affects the lives of their child(ren), and whoever the poor person is who opens the door to them.

Some people are reasonable, and some people are reckless. To keep everyone safe, both the reasonable and the reckless, rules are made to keep the reckless at bay. Letting little children knock on strangers doors, demand food, and then eat said food, is a terrible example of that very important way to keep people safe. If everyone were sensible, Halloween would be mostly fine. But the fact of the matter is that people, especially children, aren't always reasonable, and if you want everyone to be safe, you damn well can't expect them to be reasonable.
