@Nimbus Yes, it's a classic. :)

@Nimbus They are also known as Woodchucks, Whistle Pigs, and Land Beavers.
Nimbus · M
@cherokeepatti We don't have those either.

@Nimbus Do you at least have skunks?
Nimbus · M
@cherokeepatti I thought not but:
Recently, a colony of wild skunks has been discovered in the UK, specifically in Gloucestershire, marking the first known instance of skunks living freely in the area.
Recent Sightings
In the Forest of Dean, there have been numerous reported sightings of wild skunks, including a young female skunk named Ozzy, who was rescued after being found in the wild. Experts were surprised by these sightings, as skunks are native to the Americas and have never been known to live wild in the UK before. It is believed that these skunks may have escaped from captivity or been abandoned, as there are several hundred skunks kept as pets in the UK.

@Nimbus Sometimes they carry rabies here. They can carry it a long time before actually showing signs and dying from it. They have been responsible for some humans contracting rabies. They are also blood-thirsty and will dig under chicken pens if they can and chew their neck to get their blood. Had 8 half-grown chickens killed that way in one night when I was young and lived out in a rural area.

@Nimbus If you're ever near one, you WILL know, lol. 😝

@AbbeyRhode They have such a lovely musky aroma, don’t they?
Nimbus · M
@cherokeepatti Oh my!
Dangerous!
Dangerous!
Nimbus · M
@AbbeyRhode Are they worse than Scousers?
AbbeyRhode · F
@Nimbus They're about the only thing that is. You can't believe the smell. 🤮

@Nimbus Over a century ago when my aunt was about 3 years old and the family lived in a rural area she got bit by a skunk in the middle of the night. It had climbed through the window (left open due to the heat of the summer) and bit down on her lip while she was sleeping. She started screaming and her parents got it off of her. They had to wait for weeks to see if she developed symptoms of rabies. Back then there was no cure and it would have meant death. I think it was just hungry but yikes imagine something like that happening to a child or anyone else.

@cherokeepatti Wow, I don't want anything like that near me!
I guess we don't have many animals that are truly dangerous and that is a good thing! :)

@Nimbus I think if they are raised by humans while very young they can be tamed down. But when they escape and go back to the wild their offspring will revert to their natural instincts and behaviors.
Nimbus · M
@cherokeepatti Yep, they still possess the genes that make them what they are.
