Paris was a city of brothels and bordellos in the late 19th century, serving the lower class, the upper class, and everyone in between. Many famous artists have left stories and images of these institutions, none more strikingly than Edgar Degas. Here are two of his brothel paintings from roughly 1879. I’ll include some of his more gritty and realistic monotypes in the comments.
