Fine Art Fetish Friday
This painting by Paul Cadmus, called The Fleet’s In, was a scandal when it was first displayed. Navy officials didn’t like how it portrayed the sailors hanging out with prostitutes. But the painting is also notable for all the coded references to homosexuality. The well dressed blond man on the left who’s wearing makeup and offering a cigarette to another guy. The sailors on the right with the tight pants and arms around each other. The woman in the red dress with a prominent Adam’s Apple, and so much more.
