I’ll never forget the first time I saw this video…

I was 19 (October, 1996) and it was my birthday. My bf had gotten us tickets to the Tool tour show near the college town we lived in. We had each eaten a healthy 1/8th of mushrooms 🍄 and by the middle of the opening act we were booming well. We were sat in the seats of the arena because almost the entire floor level had turned into an anarchistic mosh pit with the less fortunate bleeding participants being escorted away to the medical tents. Maynard James (painted in silver and wearing a loincloth) announced that we would be the first audience of any kind to view the video for the popular single that was getting lots of airplay on the radio. MTV would debut the video the next day or few. It was a great show and an impressionable experience.
I miss the way that live music felt before social media when each performance was just a little more special.
