Styrofoam Ice Chest Squeaking All The TIme In The Back Seat Of The Car During A 450-Mile Road Trip To Missouri In August…

Windows all rolled down because no air-conditioning and blowing hot August air on our red sweaty faces.

Stop on the side of the road to eat bologna sandwiches on white bread with that funky orangish sandwich spread for our lunch.

Some things are better these days than 61 years ago.

Put a big book on top of it.

@Heartlander no book, held onto it for awhile to get a short break from that squeaking

@cherokeepatti yea, the book would have slid off of it when you stepped on the brake anyway. So maybe just reaching back and putting your hand on top of it. But that may be kind of tough when you are also holding on to a Bg Gulp; or a too hot McDonalds coffee.

@Heartlander Big Gulp? We could only dream of getting icy soft drinks back then. It was a washed-out Clorox jug filled with water and froze overnight. We drank the water from that gallon jug as it melted.

Is that sandwich "spread" stuff still sold?

I remember about 10 or 15 years ago when Maria asked me to stop at the store on the way home and get some milk and sandwich spread. I looked all over the store and couldn't find the sandwich spread so I got mayonnaise instead (pre cell phone days). When I got home I put the milk and mayo on the counter and told her how I couldn't find the sandwich spread and I didn't think they still made it. So she asked: why didn't I just get a loaf of regular bread instead.

@Heartlander so she said “Sandwich bread” ?

I don’t know if it’s still sold, tasted like Miracle whip with a little relish and ketchup in it.
