August spotlights

Here are the things i want to focus on this month, besides a little bit here and there of the Ancients, philosophy, Poetry, and possibly some Thomas Bernhard. I need focus and drive, writing this post helps me see more clearly, and it also hopefully depicts me as not just a chain smoker, but a chain reader as well!!

These 2 are the biggies i'll toggle between, a good chance i might not finish them in a month, they're incredibly dense and long and demanding.

1. The Recognitions - William Gaddis - in September or after finishing this the pleasure of reading his 2nd novel J R

2. The Tunnel - William Gass - there's a lot of typographical playfulness in this rather dark and disturbing look into madness that took the author 30 years to compose, he's a great guy to steer you into appreciating literature, so in the future should get more by him like the evocatively titled Temple of Texts.

William T. Vollmann - it will take quite a long time to get through what i splurged on this amazingly prolific author, 4 at a time seems about right
3. The Atlas - Leaf By Leaf says this is the best introduction to his work, really good video he made on it too, check it out if interested!!
4. Poor People - almost like reading about myself!
5. Rising Up and Rising Down - the abridged version of the work where he tackles the big issue of violence with a moral calculus, someday i plan to either save up for the McSweeney's original 7 volume set, or a eBook of the whole thing would be made available.
6. The Ice-Shirt - the start of the Seven Dreams series which awaits the publication of 2 more, one more reason to hope to live as long as possible!!
