April Fool's Day: A Brief History
Many people think that April Fool's Day came about when the Gregorian calendar replaced the Julian calendar. That's actually not the case. As it turns out, it is actually named for Charles April, seen here:
Charles squandered his family fortune on numerous investments in crooked schemes proposed to him by unscrupulous acquaintances. It was well known that he was a soft touch, and he kept attracting the scammers and schemers. By 1768, he was destitute and facing homelessness.
In May of 1769, he was married to one Jessica Fletcher, the daughter of a duke.
Jessica quickly grew tired of Charles' shenanigans, and divorced him the same year. Under cause, she cited his annoying habit of reading fake stories...
