Which part of Europe do you mean?
Actually many people have effectively been using "digital" currency for a long time now:
- Credit and debit cards, and more recently "smart"-'phone applications; even for quite minor purchases.
- Utility bills, insurances, etc by direct-debit; and for most employees in the UK at least, their Income Tax by the Pay As You Earn system in which the employer deducts them for the tax authorities.
- Things like club subscriptions and one-off work: bank-transfer,
- Being paid (wages or pensions, shares dividends) directly into their bank accounts.
It will though vary from country to country.
