I hate waste

I hate to see trees cut down but i know they are needed for building and other things. When i see trees cut down i am happy to see new ones planted to replace them. I live in a small village in the countryside and a few months ago 1800 trees was planted at the rear of my home. Then we got the heatwave and not once was they watered. Now the land is just over grown with weeds and all the trees are dead. What a waste of time money and trees

Who planted them?

Was it a genuine though rather naive, voluntary nature-conservation group trying to create a mixed, native woodland?

A real crop plantation of pines by what used to be the Forestry Commission or similar?

Or given the number of trees and lack of care, some over-crowded monoculture plantation by some faceless and likely foreign company as one of those "carbon trading" scams?

Whoever it was could probably not have foreseen the drought, but I doubt they could have watered them properly anyway.
