Antarctica’s 'doomsday' glacier is heading for catastrophic collapse

"A six-year investigation into the vast Thwaites glacier in Antarctica has concluded with a grim outlook on its future.

Often dubbed the “doomsday glacier”, this huge mass of ice is comparable in size to Britain or Florida and its collapse alone would raise sea levels by 65 centimetres. Worse still, this is expected to trigger a more widespread loss of the ice sheet covering West Antarctica, causing a calamitous sea level rise of 3.3 metres and threatening cities like New York, Kolkata and Shanghai."

"Ultimately, however, the ITCG researchers think that, by the end of the 23rd century, Thwaites glacier and much of the West Antarctic ice sheet might be lost.

The slightly better news is that we still have time to influence how rapidly this process occurs, by making drastic efforts to reduce carbon emissions. “We can buy us time,” says Morlighem. “We still have control on how quickly Thwaites loses mass.”"

WHEN sea levels rise up a couple of feet over the next 70 years or so, with climate scientists saying more than 6 feet of rise isn't out of the question if nothing is done, it will start to submerge coastal cities and towns throughout Florida, Louisiana and Texas. Eventually they'll be wiped out. The rest of the country's coastline will be impacted to but it will take longer to lose large chunks of land. But that'll happen as well if there's no greenhouse gas reversal. But it's hard to get people to give a shit about a place they don't live. But they won't escape it either. It'll just come in different forms. Human beings adapt and getting most people to even consider a future planet that they don't live on is next to impossible.
Gee, I wonder if it was once again the mainstream media who gave it the name of the 'Doomsday Glacier'? 🤔
Just like they named the Higgs Boson 'The God Particle' (hint: it's got nothing whatsoever to do with God).
