Does anyone remember when all the "experts" said the world was going to run out of oil?
@fanuc2013 Source?
@fanuc2013 "we only have 30 years of oil left!" That was 50 years ago.

Haven't you learned how to use Google yet...? 🙄

@Thinkerbell If you make a claim, it's on you to provide the evidence.

As for your link, it doesn't say that all the experts thought this. That's a huge exaggeration.

Read the article.

"What’s interesting is why the prophecies were accepted—and whether we’ve learned anything at all from it."
[underline added]

You, as is your habit with things you don't want to hear, learned little or nothing. 🙄
@Thinkerbell Look, I know you're mad, but lying won't help. The article is talking about how a lot of people accepted these predictions. What I'm saying is that the original claim, that "all the expects" were saying this, is wrong. Based on this article, there were a few expects here and there who made these predictions, which were then believed by random people who were very much not experts in the field.

Be real, you didn't read this article did you?

@BohemianBabe

The article mentions five geologists who made apocalyptic predictions about the oil supply; geologists aren't expert enough for you? Who would be better? Political scientists?
There was also an electrical engineer mentioned in the article; he's the only one that might qualify as a non-expert.

And of course "all the experts" is an exaggeration. All the experts never all agree on anything.

But speaking of claims, can you find experts with a significant following who said at the time that the accepted predictions were nonsense?

Yes, of course I read the article; I don't simply follow party lines. 🙄
@Thinkerbell So when you say "all the experts," you don't actually mean most or even many of the experts. You mean five of them.

Fantastic.
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@BohemianBabe

Tut, tut, Boo-boo... now you're dodging. How many experts did you want them to cite? A hundred?

And it wasn't me who said "all the experts".

And when are you going to find even one expert who said it wasn't so?
@Thinkerbell When people say "all the experts," they mean at least a majority, if not consensus.

Look, you can still hate science and scientists. But this isn't the hill to die on.
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@BohemianBabe

The article makes a good case that the predicted oil apocalypse WAS consensus at that time.

If you doubt it, prove your case, instead of dodging again.
@Thinkerbell This is true. I mean, five experts? Wow.
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@BohemianBabe

That's five more experts than you've produced.

5-zip, dodger Boo. 🤭
@Thinkerbell Well I'm not the one making the claim.
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@BohemianBabe

Well, you're the one doubting the claim... without providing a shred of objective evidence for your doubt, Dodger Boo.

First you wanted a source.

When you got the source, you said they weren't experts.

When they were shown to be experts, you said there weren't enough of them,
while providing none of your own. 😂

The truth of the matter is, is that you didn't like it when the experts whose predictions were generally accepted were proven to be wrong. 😂 😂

And why didn't you like it? The experts' false predictions were favored by the left-wing party line, and you don't like it when the party line proves false, do you, Dodger Boo? 😂 😂 😂
@Thinkerbell
Well, you're the one doubting the claim... without providing a shred of objective evidence for your doubt

If you make a claim, it's on you to provide the evidence.

If I tell you there's a ghost living in my backyard, it's not on you to prove the ghost isn't real. It's on me to prove that it is.

When you got the source, you said they weren't experts.

Nope, I said the source only cited five people. If you have to lie, you probably know you're wrong. 😉

@BohemianBabe Oil companies are drilling deep in the oceans for oil, trying to extract oil from tar sands. That's because the petrol from easy to get at ground sources are running low. Demand is exceeding supply.
