I am not against things being environmentally friendly, but how in the world are selling carbon credits going to benefit people or the environment?

Im fed up with democrats & their greedy feelings, imposing on our liberties 🗽 😒

Even most small businesses receive carbon credits.. Most don't need them and sell them to the big companies that need all they can get
@MarineBob its just going to make inflation worse, no? Consumers always carry the burden, & we do not have a viable option for the masses to replace oil.

Depending on the type of carbon credit, the money received from the sale can be used for emissions offsetting. So, if you make 100,000 tons of carbon a year, are only allowed 50,000 tons, and are required to purchase credits for the remainder, you can purchase credits from a company whose goal is to offset the 50,000 tons, reducing your actual carbon footprint. It's a good way to help companies get to net zero.
@SW-User how do credits dissipate carbon?

@checkoutanytime If you purchase a credit from a company focused on offsetting and mitigating, they can use the money from said purchase to fund carbon reduction projects elsewhere. Example, if you can't reduce your own carbon footprint because of the nature of your business, let's say manufacturing, you could buy credits that cover the difference between your allowance and what you actually produce. The credits could be from a company focused on low emissions energy or carbon recapture from the atmosphere or something like that. There is a similar concept with wetlands where you can purchase credits from a company that will create a wetland better than one you remove from your property (with the appropriate government permissions, of course).
@SW-User yes, i agree thats the language, in real life application the carbon doesnt actually dissipate, i see the allure of it creating the cleanest energy system possible but being distributed from clean buisnesses to carbon creating companies seems more like another expense then a sollution in application.
