a century of billions of barrels of pesticide and insecticide

have been used all over this planet
and still we have invasive species of insects and plants where they dont belong
the dry hot 90's just ruined my yard permanently
i know many put down new sod only to have it look like what they had removed in a short time
now it has cooled off and much more rainfall here in mid atlantic
for 20 years i tried hand digging wire grass, crabgrass, violets, dandelions, etc
i tried burning also but that just creates lot of smoke and stink neighbors dont like
i am a gardener and am in process of removing all sod from front yard in sections
and replacing with all perennials and bulbs
with 20 yrs experience ive learned what thrives in all weather and can be easily divided for use in other areas, challange is so much shade for me
im already seeing many songbirds including my first ever bluebird!!
what ive had success with includes
grape hyacinths, crocus, tulips, dogwoods, iris, azaleas, rhododendron, hollys, lillys, coreopsis, lamium and nettle, columbines, coneflowers, black eyed susans, and many others ive forgotten this moment
for weed barrier i use layers of cardboard free from where i work and straw from coop
not mulch from box stores
also found an old roll of tarpaper left over from roofing job i can move around to new section
