insulation...a great investment

i own a typical 1950's ranch style home...purchased in 2000
it is brick and will survive anything nature throws at it
there is one room that always remained much colder in winter and was useless
it is perpendicular to rest of the house and over a crawl space
putting carpet on wood flooring did not help
there was 3-4 inches of original rock wool insulation in attic space
a contractor was working in neighborhood and was going around to other homes drumming up business
there were credits from both the natural gas utility and the govt
after a long discussion and all my questions answered to my satisfaction, i agreed to hire them and add more insulation to attic...i went with the max R60
my home is 100 ft from the street where the truck parked
they ran a hose from the truck in the front door and up the attic pull down steps
a fan blows loose insulation thru the hose...NO NOISE AND NO CLEANUP
it took 2 hours to do the entire attic area
WITHIN 24 HOURS WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! for the better
the savings began immediately on electric and natural gas utilitys

Yep ! We had out attic sprayed with radiant barrier ( paint) and 2 ft of blown in insulation . When he had the house built he had a spray in foam put between the studs in the walls . The house is a quiet and stays cool in summer with out much AC.

Back in the mid-70’s I was newly married & living in a small frame home built in the 1930’s, we were using a lot of propane to heat it. My husband brought home some insulation, went into the attic & rolled it out over the living room area. Within 30 minutes you could feel the heat building up in the house. Just insulting the attic over one room made a drastic difference. They didn’t insulate homes back in the 1930’s like they do now and the owners of the house didn’t bother to either.

@cherokeepattiMaybe you should apologize to the attic in case you hurt it's feelings. Attics can be sensitive.

When I was building this house, with zero house building experience, my neighbour, who is a builder said "it's not possible to waste money on insulation" he was spot on, one wood burning stove heats the entire house and provides enough hot water for 6 people.

Great investment. Also a good air exchanger and sealing up the home will help too.
