I get it, the reliance on Oil

What would happen if the entire world shifted to EV's overnight? There would be a lot of job losses. Think about all the industries that currently support the old exploding engine trick.

- Alternators.. lots of companies rebuild these, although they are not just for cars, any exploding motor has one. EV doesn't.
- Muffler repair shops. No mufflers in an EV.
- Catalytic converters.. bye
- Radiator repair shops and companies that build them. No more need for those in cars. Might be some applications somewhere for a dozen years after.
- Fast Oil change centres. Nope, goodbye.
- Starter motors
- Transmission companies
- Companies that bottle oil, filters, rad fluid, Transmission fluids.. no need for those anymore.

Gas stations would need to change to EV charging stations or close. I think most would close. The gas stations seem intent on ignoring the EV thing, watching it slowly slide in and letting the Government take over charging. Like boiling a frog in water, if you put it in cold water and heat it up it will sit there until it dies. Poor froggy. Bye.

Oil extraction would not be a desperate thing like it is at the moment. Oil companies are in a panic to sell as much of it to China as they can. Get the money out of it before someone else does. Destroy the land and people to make that happen. It is insanity. Wars are happening because of it. It would be nice to see that go away.

Lets save the planet and go explore Space instead.

@jshm2 Not sure where you live that uses coal to make electricity but that sounds like an awful place. India? China? Must be a 3rd world country.
Realistically, that mass exodus to EV's is not going to happen, though.

We just don't have the infrastructure in place for charging the damn things - and planning permissions are still set in the dark ages, too.

@1490wayb The post was in reference to the automotive industry.

@SoftIceCream the world economy would come to a catastrophic screeching halt immediately...the world's power grids are under strain now and experiencing blackouts and intentional shutdowns.
@1490wayb Yes because some areas do not have enough power. Other areas have loads of excess. It would not be a global event, just local. Besides, you aren't charging your EV all the time, only when you are running out, so there is a lot of flexibility on use. Charge it overnight while everyone is asleep. Lots of power then.
