But in a state like new jersey that is already more expensive to live in than most others whats the point of making it more expensive?

Not following you. Where's the cost to consumers? This is about a creating a stewardship plan by manufacturers to reduce single use plastic. ANYTHING that we can do to reduce plastic waste, particularly as other countries aren't accepting our recycling waste like they used to, is a great thing.

@Ynotisay generally speaking products that are designed to be recycled are generally more expensive to aquire. And using them as packaging material will drive the price up.

@Ozuye502 But there's no real proof that increased cost to consumers is a part of EPR. It already exists in a lot of countries. And any cost would be negligible. And from where I'm standing if there was really was an increased cost then I'm all for that. There's no reason for people to not use their own bag at a grocery store or use a personal water bottle in lieu of buying expensive, bottled water. And that's just a couple of examples. We can't keep going down this path. And I'll never be prepared to commiserate with the poor petroleum industry.
