They want to make bugs better at eating plastic

Many beetles are already a nuisance getting into boxed food and paper bags. Plastics keep them out for now. I guess we'll have to switch to storing everything in metal and glass next.

Yeah I don't know how they're going to do that, glass is expensive and heavy. However it wouldn't be a bad thing, plastic leeches into everything and long term can mean consequences for health. I'm glad we'll be forced to find an alternative I just hope it's not worse than plastic but slightly better at the very least.

@SatanBurger The problem is they want to use insects. Obviously that's where it was discovered so we can't just hop over to something else but I think it's a door best left unopened until you can give it to like birds or fish instead. A dermestid infestation from escaped beetles used to clean bones destroyed several specimens at a college. You think if they couldn't even contain those what it's going to be like to just release insects with these new abilities into the wild to clean up earth. Luckily this seems to be one of those perpetual science hype stories like clones but some greenpeace idiot is going to want to pursue this and that won't end well.

@Jackaloftheazuresand I didn't realize they were talking about actually releasing these bugs. I think there's people that legit want us to die and those people have control over our food.

It would be much better if we used glass and metal.
