Winter Storm
Second winter storm in a week. I honestly get so anxious when they come as we live so far from town and I am honestly so scared about been cut off 😱❄️☃️

All about the prep. When I was a kid, it was sometimes days before the town plow could plow us out. There is nothing to be afraid of if you understand and prepare in advance which should be waaaay to your advantage given doplar and all other weather assets.
I found, as a kid, that it was pretty exciting----power goes out. All the electric noise making white noise machines go silent and you hear nothing but Mother Nature. I take that every time. We played board games together as family by kerosene lamps that we retrieved from the closet. And once power was restored, even though we were not plowed out, my parents baked mounds of fresh bread and the smell just permeated the farmhouse. It was not the worst of times, it was the best of times.

@Freeranger did the ups unit on your computer beep when the power went out? no flashlights? no radios that could run on batteries?? no generator???? 🍪 did mom bake chocolate chip cookies? 🍪 nothing like the smell of a sheet of hot chocolate chip cookies fresh out of the oven. 🍪

@Freeranger why no beep from the ups unit for your computer when the power went out? The ups unit on the computer here beeps when the power is out. My parents got the ups decades back and it weighs 25 pounds. My mom has me pick it up and move it when she is vacuuming under the desk where it sits. we change out the battery about every 5 years when it fails the test. Good, you have flashlights. would not want to be walking around in the dark spilling kerosene around the house then lighting it when you are trying to light the lanterns in the dark. why no radio that runs on battery? how do you get the tornado warnings when the power is out and know to head to the basement to hide under a heavy desk to protect you from the house collapsing when the tornado comes through? I like the smell of the chocolate chip cookies my mom cooks. love eating them when they are still warm on the cookie pan. we also have a generator we keep filled with gas ready to go. we wheel it out about 50 feet away from the house. plug one end into the 30 amp 120-volt outlet on the generator. twin lead 10 gauge wire runs 50 feet to the plug on the other end of the wire that plugs into a socket on the side of the house where a 10 gauge wire runs to the dual breaker in the power panel. when the power is out. we turn off the main breaker after firing up the generator and hooking it up, then turn on the generator breaker and both poles of the dual breaker are fed from the live wire running into the breaker panel with the neutral wire hooked to the neutral bus bar. Phase A and phase B are now tied together and the house is running on single phase 120 volt ac power. everything works except for the electric stove in the kitchen and the central air-conditioning. we have a gas stove in the basement for mom to cook on when the power is out. I don't watch Saturday night live that often as it does not cost much to make. I like big-budget movies as they cost 200 million dollars to make and you absorb that money by watching the movie. 💵🎥
