why does the tv have so many advertisements now

i'm really sick of them, ads on every channel..you can't get into watching anything now, because the long ad breaks keep interrupting...it was never like this in the 80s, the era i grew up in.

Too many channels have meant fewer people watching a show at any one time.
Smaller audiences men less "reach" for advertisers, hence less sales per ad paid for.
Less value means advertisers have to be charged less.
Bt the costs of producing entertainment keeps rising, so producers have to sacrifice anything original or expensive to make, and take on a larger number of advertisers to cover their costs.

In short, more TV stations means more ads per station, and less variety and quality in the choice of shows.
