Commentaries enhance entertainment

There's a review on a book on Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra that a reviewer, perhaps there's a general consensus amongst the learned that once you've read it you won't be able to see that N book any other way, similarly there's a 4 and a half hour video explaining Twin Peaks that promises and warns that other view points will be impossible after watching it.

This motif i see happening with the commentaries i'm reading, for some, namely believers, one would want to come to a personal understanding of the main text before being aware of what scholars say, and it would be strange if it was normal for a humble pew warmer to engage with reference material usually used by the people delivering the messages on Sunday or teaching those who might do that in the future.

I say these things to highlight the degree of hubris i seem to manifest when i go into these reference material.

1st - i am on the outside peering in

2nd -- it's all done autodidactically.

I've said it before, but the allure this stuff has is precisely how they're meant for people whom i will never become, that i'm getting an insider's scoop on the texts. And an amazing sense of the breadth of material there is.

With a daily quota being read i am finding out that it prepares me for unabashedly entertaining kinds of movies.

I did this last night, sparkling with THC it culminated in watch Iron Man the first MCU film, so this is crucial to understand, i know how those movies can be seen in a poor light, they sure aren't great cinema, but what these commentaries do, is that they tax the brain so much, that the brain needs precisely that kind of entertainment, movies which are 100% entertainment, or as i prefer to term it unabashedly entertaining. They are thus unlocked from a stultifying stigma that is placed upon them by arrogant cinephiles who aren't wrong, but they are probably not reading heavy duty bible commentaries just prior to viewing, which is here stated as a key to enjoying them.

Slowly like tectonic plates, for all of next year which is fast approaching i want to implement a few, not too much films and series designed to relax the mind. The following are ratified:

Seinfeld
Twin Peaks
Infinity Saga

with space for presumably

The Sopranos
I Love Lucy
James Bond
Columbo

No purchases on films or shows until at the earliest 2025, which may include an upgrade of Vince Gilligan's 2 show 1 movie extravaganza.
