I find it difficult to even look at a photo of him, much less a movie. He seems like a jerk.

I've never enjoyed the roles that Cruise played. My impression is that he over-acts. Like not believable.
Like I'm an old military pilot and I've never seen Top Gun. The idea of a macho-pilot with an attitude is offensive. So unreal. Chuck Yeager is the image of a fighter pilot, Tom Cruise is an image more suited for the cover of Esquire magazine :)

Opps, it was Sully and not Skully.
The image Eastwood and Hanks created of Sully was one where he questioned himself at all the important decisions and turns. One who wasn't afraid to absorb others' opinion to either validate or modify his own decisions. By contrast, in Top Gun they are promoting the image of a speed freak, unwilling to wear a helmet on a motorcycle being driven as fast as possible.
It brought up an old line that probably dates back 60 or 70 years: "There are old pilots and bold pilots, but there no old bold pilots."

Sully is one of my heroes and inspirations for when I feel like giving up. @Heartlander

@Carissimi Understandably. And this is a good time to nudge myself to read one of his books :)

All Celebrities are a bit flakey. He is very intense and gung ho about his work. A lot of actors are not and that puts him at odds with them when they work together. His religion is a bit off putting and none of his exes have anything nice to say about him. But as a person in general, he seems nice enough. And we all have to admit, he is a very good actor. Likely the last of the great ones for a while.

Tom Cruise is a genuinely nice guy,his fans love him but he has that one major issue.Scientology religion.
tallpowerhouseblonde · 36-40, F
@Jonjdw He also appears to be a genuinely nice guy. Many famous people are to the point they arrange to meet fans at conventions and answer questions from fans. The stars from Arrow and Game of Thrones in particular. It's on YouTube.

@tallpowerhouseblonde i’m a be it’s just me and my negativity
but how many of them know that it helps their careers a lot to connect with the fans. Just saying.

@Jonjdw The shows are popular without the stars interacting with their fans.

It’s your personal perspective. I don’t like Harrison Ford, but I like Tom Cruise. I think you are projecting your feelings into others.

That guy can fly planes does his own stunts and multi talented. But I see what you mean

@SW-User I remember reading that Val Kilmer said Tom Cruise was so dedicated when they made top gun. The original top gun.
Tom cruise is letting the church of Scientology control him. I think he still does not see any of his children that are not involved with the church. I think he only has like one or two children.

There's no way to discredit an American and have him lose influence. The media is set up that way.

It's the cult brainwashing.

He's a cocky little creep. 🤮
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
He’s not a real human being, but some kind of self-programmed meat cyborg. Incredibly disciplined.
