does anyone here have a smart meter

the energy company i'm with keeps pushing me to have a smart meter, when i keep telling them i don't want one, because i've heard not too good things about them...the energy company who supply my gas and electric tell me smart meters are going to become compulsory in the near future and to have one installed now whilst they're free of charge...i live in the uk and live in an apartment and i really do not want a smart meter.

do you have one and are they bad or good?
