@Wiseacre In the capacity as to how it keeps you locked into the addiction. Im not a Expert but your question wasnt in regard to expertise but rather what i know alot about. Mum was a addict. Later in life me too. Like anything a person has been around a long time. You grow knowledge on that subject. Unless you dont care to learn. Most addiction gives you very little choice in that resoect. Its educate yourself or possibly die.
