It depends on what " smart" is really looking like. Grunting short answer replies and following mass media is a definite turn off.

Digging deep, talking late into the night, learning from each other about topics you were once uninformed about.

Hmmm and I get knocked for being too personal with conversations. I can't stand general , nothing conversations about the weather.
