I Hated Physical Education Class

I never minded P.E. at school especially swimming! our pool at school was an outdoor one (we're talking late sixties to early seventies here) and was shared with the local primary school. During the summer weather the primary school class secluded to use the pool often didn't turn up so we were free to use it instead! Those who hadn't got swimwear with them were allowed to swim in their P.E. kit if they wanted to; boys in their black cotton shorts and girls in their navy gym knickers and white t-shirts! we all loved it, but alas that sort of thing wouldn't be allowed in these politically correct days!!

Swimming was not part of my schooldays - we had no pool.

I can't say out of hand I "hated" PE because I liked certain activities; but I did not enjoy football. I was hopeless at it, and just not interested in sports like that, then and now.

Had we swum, I think it would have been trunks or no swimming, because white twill shorts are likely to become translucent when wet, and we were supposed to wear nothing under them!
