Hydromantes (web-toed salamanders) possess one of the fastest tongues in the animal kingdom, capable of launching in less than 5–20 milliseconds to snag prey. They launch their tongue, cartilage, and part of their skeleton up to 80% of their body length, often faster than chameleons. This ballistic movement is powered by a high-power projection mechanism.
