France defeats the midwest R

I’m on level 12 on duolingo but I’m seriously doubting my mouth is capable of making whatever that breathy hacky half phlegmy sound is they use instead of an R. It seems to need to come from somewhere toward the back, but I haven’t found it yet so the speaking exercises always throw in a few R words and stubbornly sit there judging me while I keep trying to just not sound like I’m choking. 😂😂 Maybe it’s that authentic French experience. 🤣

I wonder if it’s easier for the south or east coast where their R’s are already softer. Ours are hard enough to cut glass and seem to wanna stay that way. 🙃
