In spite of what Ron DiSanctis says, being "WOKE" is not a bad thing.

Apparently, In the the early 60's, a singer called "Leadbelly" came up with the term "Woke" which meant to be cautious, or on the alert for people with "Jim Crow" type leanings.

Happily, the majority of people in this country do not view "Wokeness" as a negative thing which is great to know.

It is very old black slang. It was one of "our" terms not used in the presence of whites. I remember hearing it as a child, but it definitely predates me.

Hearing white people, especially conservatives saying things like "woke-ism", etc. Is actually kind of insulting, since they have no clue about the origin. They might as well just identify themselves as racist or white supremacist, because that’s who would have a problem with being "woke", based on the old definition.

When they taunt “Woke” or attack BLM they don’t know what Black Militarism looks like. Beyoncé came closer to it with the “Formation” styled from the Black Panthers.
@bijouxbroussard I kind of got the history wrong and am sorry about that. It's a very sad day when history repeats itself. Very little has changed, only the mask of tolerance remains., Trump or DeSanctis? either way we lose. I dread the future my friend.
@Pfuzylogic @Grateful4you
No, they know nothing about the term or its context, it’s just a word they’ve latched onto like a dog with a bone.

And since DeSantis and his ilk are determined that the next generation will not be taught about the past when the truth is too ugly for them to face, once our generation is gone, there’s a real possibility of that truth dying with all of us.
@bijouxbroussard " Those who have not learned the lessons of the past are doomed to repeat it" The message that hung from behind the throne of the notorious Jim Jones. ( The sociopath of Guyana where so many died at his command.) A director of nursing once remarked, "There can never be another holocaust, not here in America I thought to myself, what stupid thing to say, not only CAN it happen it IS happening. History, indeed repeats it'self

@Grateful4you There is a holocaust going on in America today? Really ? @Grateful4you
@goodlil666 Really. And those who are clueless about it will help it along.

@bijouxbroussard maybe some good Latin Jazz could possibly ease their stress; just maybe
goodlil666 · 51-55, MVIP
@bijouxbroussard What is this so called "Holocaust " that is going on in America today? Please do tell.
@goodlil666 That was my observation. History tends to repeat itself, everywhere are signs of anti-semitism, we have very active groups of Neo-nazi efforts, and everywhere, there is hatred a rising tide of whites seeking to quiet minorities those who seek to ignore this terrible trend I don't want to make an effort to insult you but attempting to ignore this isn't going to help, it only makes matters worse.

@Grateful4you and @bijouxbroussard You obviously don't know or under stand the definition of Holocaust.. I suggest you go look it up. What your referring to is racism . Big difference!!

You are being disrespectful of people's who have actually and or may be suffering from a Holocaust anywhere in the world. As well as showing your lack of intelligence of what a Holocaust truly is.

Yes, the USA did commit the largest and longest Holocaust/ genocide probably that ever occured on this plant . That however for the most part ended a little more than 100 years ago. That was against the Native Americans.

Nothing even remotely close to being called a Holocaust is occurring in the USA today. The racism that you have confused with Holocaust , like it or not will probably never disappear. That is partly due to our constitutional rights and partly because it has existed and will continue to exist in some people in every country and ever part of the world since the beginning of time .

So please use the correct terminology when you are trying to state and or debate your ideas on any issue because by not doing so you are just clouding up and creating confusion about the real issue. That just puts less validity on and less credibility in points you are trying to make........ Just saying.
@goodlil666 And you’re being ignorant by claiming that the only definition of the word holocaust (without a capital "h") is the experience of the Jewish diaspora. That is only one of the dictionaries definitions. And the other definitions have happened to other groups of people.
Moreover, since conservatives in parts of our country have begun censoring this country’s documented history the chances of reoccurrences of these kinds of atrocities are better than at any point in our recent history.

@bijouxbroussard No if you really read my statement that is exactly NOT what I am saying. Read the definition you posted. They all describe in some way massive loss of life / slaughter. Again you just pointed your own finger right back at yourself about comprehending the definition of the word. LOL !!!
@goodlil666 Actually, you’re the one who missed the context. Some of us were having a conversation that you saw your way into, and it was mentioned that
A director of nursing once remarked, "There can never be another holocaust, not here in America”
You took that and ran with it. And you immediately accused us of "disrespecting" the Holocaust survivors ? Why would you say that, if you understand that it’s not the only instance where such a word can be used ?
You blundered into a conversation that you didn’t understand. You still don’t get it. That person was mistaken. It certainly could happen again. And with systemic racism (which even you admit will always exist on some level), including some lawmakers actively trying to turn the clock back, a reoccurrence is pretty much inevitable.
@goodlil666
Your the one that piped up to my question about a Holocaust going on in America today.
