Here's another experience I want to share ☺...because I love story telling.

Incredible these paintings mostly done by Michelangelo. They are called Frescoes; watercolor painted on wet plaster on the walls and and ceilings, so that the colors penetrated the plaster and became fixed as they dried.[image deleted]The emphasis on depth in the painted artworks is truly amazing. They looked 3D to me, with those arms and feet and intricate trimmings coming forward. I asked if they were carved or moulded plasters and the travel guide answered, "They were all single-handedly painted FLAT on the ceiling by Michelangelo standing". Truly a gifted painter and sculptor.

The ornaments are massive....The letterings alone on the gold strip are 6.4 ft tall. It runs as part of the cornice along all the walls of the Sistine Chapel.

Every room has been "refreshed", as described by the travel guide. Meaning, cleaned and restored, by newer generation artists to maintain the original state of the artworks. But they always leave a part untouched (like the dark strip on the ceiling) to show how the original would have changed after thousands of years.
