I Like Learning New Things

Here's another experience I want to share ☺...because I love story telling.
[image deleted]Too much affluence for a very small country, The Vatican.

Incredible these paintings mostly done by Michelangelo. They are called Frescoes; watercolor painted on wet plaster on the walls and and ceilings, so that the colors penetrated the plaster and became fixed as they dried.[image deleted]
The emphasis on depth in the painted artworks is truly amazing. They looked 3D to me, with those arms and feet and intricate trimmings coming forward. I asked if they were carved or moulded plasters and the travel guide answered, "They were all single-handedly painted FLAT on the ceiling by Michelangelo standing". Truly a gifted painter and sculptor.
Some of his marble works.

The tapestries, 'bigger than life', @Pfuzylogic is talking about.

The ornaments are massive....The letterings alone on the gold strip are 6.4 ft tall. It runs as part of the cornice along all the walls of the Sistine Chapel.

Every room has been "refreshed", as described by the travel guide. Meaning, cleaned and restored, by newer generation artists to maintain the original state of the artworks. But they always leave a part untouched (like the dark strip on the ceiling) to show how the original would have changed after thousands of years.

Michelangelo dedicated so much to this work so everyone could enjoy his vision.
I am curious about what I haven’t seen now. As a Catholic this must have been such a treat let alone as a Fine Art enthusiast. I believe Raphael has some sculpture also in the Vatican.

@Pfuzylogic I couldn't agree more with your statement: the dedication, his vision, his legacy.

Nothing has changed in The Vatican, I guess. Everything has to be preserved as they were in the beginning.

And yes, his works alone can make up one whole study/course/career. The results of his works not only influenced arts, but other major aspects in life as well, like education, culture, tourism, you name it.

Raphael was never mentioned.

I am certain that there are many areas corridored off but the areas you had access to were magnificent and yes what about those wall tapestry/rugs! 😍
When you get some culture you go full board. I went to two places that were at that level in the US. Chicago and New York City. I had the fortune of being at the Museum when the “minimalist” art was coming out in 1980. I do like to dive deep into the “pools” of art and culture and then grab some air and dive back in.

@Pfuzylogic I didn't know you knew about those tapestries until you mentioned it. Like I said, they are big....! My initial reaction when I saw them was to wonder; how these intricate works came about. I think people of our age can never make such 'bigger than life' artwork again. Not to mention the fact that there were no machines yet, at the time they were made. I remember the guide mentioning gold threads as well .

It would be a good idea to go out and visit places for a change.

My ability to go to places of distance is a bit limited. I am in the process of getting my exhaust repaired and today they thought they couldn’t repair my car, which took all day and then they changed their mind and want my car all day tomorrow for welding. I have learned to gain a sense of humor and not get too wrapped in how long it takes but I do have a few plans on visiting places in the city. God has been very good to me so I don’t have to worry about my finances. God trained me well in that area. 😊

@Pfuzylogic Sooooooo happy for you, P. When you said yesterday, that winter in your place last year was cruel, that made me thinking non-stop again.....Pls, you have to do what you need to do and always be prepared.

I have faith in you. You have the ability to see things through.

I hope you'r plans of going around will push through.

Bless you.

I am never without resources.
I give God that credit because that wasn’t guaranteed when my former employer abandoned me and left me on my own. I did feel very strongly that God was in it or I wouldn’t have taken a big chance on my own. I do agree with you that inspiration comes from places besides the Internet and away from the phone. I do relish this time to explore creatively and fortunate that there are several places to view Fine Art here.

If many would take the chance to know God it would make such a difference in their lives.
Yes, I am fortunate and very thankful for the mercies I have been shown.
*Accepts your hand in friendship”.
You know I had to look up the word “respite”! 😉
